We get hundreds of calls a month from consumers who feel they have been wronged by a dealer. Sometimes there is nothing we can do.
Today I received a call from a young lady who had purchased a car from a LaGrange Georgia dealership. The car was a piece of junk and required thousands in repairs. She confronted the dealer and the dealer said he would “do the right thing”.
Turns out the dealer treated the piece of junk as a trade in and allowed the reduced value of the car on the trade. He then asked the consumer for an additional down payment. He inflated the second car price with the negative equity in the first car. So rather than “do the right thing”, the dealer again took advantage of the consumer. He made her pay more money and added to her loan the negative equity in the first car he sold her.
What to Do When a Car Dealer Screws You
We could possibly have assisted this consumer had she come to us before making the second deal. If you feel you have been wronged by a car dealer, please consult with an attorney before making another deal with them. Be aware of the scheme to treat the now proven piece of junk as a trade rather than a dollar for dollar collateral swap.
